From 16th July 2005 the new Hazardous Waste Regulations came into force which changed the regulatory framework for the disposal of clinical waste, including sharps.
The NHS-sponsored guidance document "Safe Management of Healthcare Waste" is now available as a consultation document and suggests colour coding of sharps containers to assist with the segregation of various categories of sharps.
